CHAPTER 8

“100 tickets for the 7 p.m. performance of the The Illusionists 1903 show, please,” Victor recited at the Sydney Opera House ticket office.

“Conference call will start in three… two… one…” the computer stated. Victor appeared in hologram form.

“Everything is taken care of,” Victor reported. “I’ll be awaiting your men in front of the Opera House at 6:30 p.m. Earth time.”

“Excellent,” said Slith. “Excellent.”

The evil Xemlix beings gathered in front of the portal with Earth.

“We’ll be crossing one by one,” directed Quelm. “As soon as you cross, shape shift into human form,” he ordered. “We don’t want to raise any suspicions.”

One by one the Xemlix beings jumped into an abyss to emerge on the other side. As they were crossing the portal, their minds filled with hatred toward the humans and the Lapo. The Xemlix feared their leaders and they needed to produce fear to survive.

“Quelm to Tiluk,” all our men are on the other side,” Quelm reported through a device placed in his ear.

“Very good. Proceed toward Sydney. Do not attract any attention!” Tiluk ordered.

The Xemlix beings now in human form separated under the commands of their leader and in groups of four took public transportation to the Sydney Opera House.

By 6:30 they had all gathered around Victor, who handed out their tickets to the performance.

“Now mingle with the crowd and remember that at precisely 7:30 you are to shape shift into monstrous form and scare those humans senseless. I want them to see dragons breathing fire, I want them to see three-headed monsters, I want them to see one eyed giant worms, I want them to see their biggest nightmares come true!” Quelm roared. “I want them to generate an unprecedented amount of fear! Fulfill these orders or else this will be your end! Now go!”

The evil Xemlix beings nodded and mingled with the crowd.

Meldrick arrived at the Sydney Opera House with his army of men. The performance had already begun. He hoped it wasn’t too late. If the Xemlix plan came to fruition, the humans and Lapo would suffer a terrible blow.

On the way to the Opera House, Meldrick had discussed possible ways of stopping the evil monsters. One was to stage an anonymous call that would warn about a bomb in the building but that itself would generate too much fear. The Xemlix could manifest in front of the spectators’ eyes without anyone stopping them. It had to be something subtler. They had to get the spectators out of there one by one without the Xemlix noticing. It was a good thing they‘d come prepared.

Four of the Lapo men dressed as waiters and handed out drinks to the crowd. The drinks were Lapo manufactured — with a drop of liquid that required the drinker to take an immediate trip to the bathroom. Meldrick hoped that the Xemlix, being the fools they were, were ignorant about opera protocol and wouldn’t get suspicious.

“Water or lemonade? It’s on the house,” the Lapo warriors dressed as waiters offered as they made their way across the room.
